In Loving Memory of Ferrol Lee Sipes

August 24, 1968 - February 2, 2008

Friendship Baptist Church's cookbook, A Sweet Aroma, is in the process of being reprinted and will be available for sale the last of April. This will be the 4th printing of this highly successful cookbook. A page has been added in "Loving Memory of Ferrol Sipes" wth a color photo and a personal page about her. All proceeds of the sale of this cookbook run will go into the "Ferrol Sipes Memorial Awana Building" fund.

It's a beautiful book, brilliant blue color, 3 ring binder type, padded cover with a white dove over an open Bible. There is gold foil lettering on the front and side. There are over 600 recipes, several that have won awards. Catagories include appetizers/beverages, soups/salads, vegetables/side dishes, main dishes (including Wild Game), breads/rolls, desserts, cookies/candy, and a 'This and That' which include 31 diabetic-sugar free, low cal recipes.

Ferrol was a missionary for Awana International along with her family, her husband, T.J., and thier children, Goldie (20), Terry (18), Jacob (15), and Noah (11). Her greatest love was her family, She was in her comfort zone when she was taking cate of her home and her children. She worked very hard for her husband, T.J., as an Awana missionary, but most of her work was behind the scenes. She never wanted "public" praise for the work she did but because of her efforts a way was provided for so many boys and girls to learn about Jesus.

Ferrol made everyone around her smile. She loved pulling practical jokes and loved even more pulling them and then laughing from afar with no one knowing she was the one responsible. She was a city girl that moved to the country and fell in love with the people she lived around and the church she served in. If you looked for her on Wednesday nights, you could always find her in the kitchen at her church helping server the meal for the Awana children and their leaders.

She was a member of Friendship Baptist Church and her dream for Friendship was to have an Awana building large enough to house as many boys and girls that wanted to come and learn about Jesus and to have a "game square" big enough for them to play their hearts out on.

Words to "Homesick" by MercyMe

You're in a better place, I've heard a thousand times
And at least a thousand times I've rejoiced for you
But the reason why I'm broken, the reason why I cry
Is how long must I wait to be with you

I close my eyes and I see your face
If home's where my heart is then I'm out of place
Lord, won't you give me strength to make it through somehow
I've never been more homesick than now

Help me Lord cause I don't understand your ways
The reason why I wonder if I'll ever know
But, even if you showed me, the hurt would be the same
Cause I'm still here so far away from home

I close my eyes and I see your face
If home's where my heart is then I'm out of place
Lord, won't you give me strength to make it through somehow
I've never been more homesick than now

In Christ, there are no goodbye
And in Christ, there is no end
So I'll hold onto Jesus with all that I have
To see you again
To see you again

And I close my eyes and I see your face
If home's where my heart is then I'm out of place
Lord, won't you give me strength to make it through somehow
Won't you give me strength to make it through somehow
Won't you give me strength to make it through somehow

I've never been more homesick than now
